Telstra has been buying up additional bandwidth since the NBN Co reduced its wholesale prices in December 2017.
This has allowed Telstra over the past 3 months to deliver an average of more than 85 percent of the maximum speeds during peak times.
Telstra CEO Andy Penn said in a statement that Telstra are “in the process of bestowing 50/20 speeds to the majority of our NBN customers”
NBN Co recently announced that it expects to have more than 1.2 million premises on 50Mbps plans by June 2018. That is Seven times more than at the end of 2017.
Telstra currently has the largest market share of any NBN provider, so its commitment to upgrade customers currently on 25Mbps plans to the 50Mbps tier means it is likely to be a big contributor to that 1.2 million premises.
